I'm a Chinese-American filmmaker, born in China and grew up in New York City. I lived in Paris from 2002-2007 where I spent the majority of my time in a neighborhood called “Belleville”. Many expats write about the famous neighborhoods (Marais, Latin Quarter, Saint-Germain des Prés) but I think a multi-ethnic and working class neighborhood is just as interesting and just as worthy of writing about.
